When it comes to replacing a component of your vehicle, there are two kinds of parts to choose from: OEM and aftermarket. What’s the difference? Which parts are better quality? And is it ok to use aftermarket parts for some repair jobs but not others?
OEM stands for “Original Equipment Manufacturer.” So OEM parts are simply parts that your unit's manufacturer made. OEM parts are specifically customized for a given year, make and model of unit.
Some examples of OEM are Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Polaris, Kawasaki, Can-Am, Arctic Cat, KTM, Harley Davidson, John Deere, Husqvarna, Ducati and others.
Aftermarket parts are simply parts that are not made by the original unit manufacturer. They are replacement parts that are manufactured by third-party companies, and most are designed and constructed to fit exactly the same and work as well or better than the OEM parts they replace. Some examples are Ricks, Quadboss, EPI, Motion Pro, Answer, Pivot Works,Zetta, Wiseco and others.
